These wines can illuminate your night with their fresh acidity, electrify your palate with their fine stream of bubbles, and spark up that conversation you’ll be sharing with your date throughout the night.

Taste the stars together and watch them twinkle in your date’s eyes. Choose a charmat method sparkling wine like a Prosecco if you’re a modernist or a Methodé Traditionelle or Champagne if you’re a traditionalist.

Sauvignon Blanc / Cabernet Sauvignon / Syrah

Traits: Confident and bold

Are you someone who loves adventure and believes that you can achieve anything you put your mind to? If you answered yes, then pick one of these wines because, like you, they make an unforgettable first impression with their powerful personalities.

The herbaceous notes of Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon and the peppery notes of Syrah will hit you like a morning ocean breeze.

Here's a snapshot of what happens when you drink these wines:

Oozing with confidence, you paddle out to the ocean and prop yourself up on your surfboard. Your date is speechless and is mesmerised by your adventurous nature. You make surfing look so easy, and their curiosity for you grows while you ride that barrel wave.

Chardonnay / Pinot Noir

Traits: Elegant yet down to earth

If you are someone who is graceful, stylish and poised at all times and can remain sensible and realistic, then pick a Chardonnay or Pinot Noir wine. Chardonnay, like you, is level-headed and reasonable like the stoics of ancient Greece and Rome.

Chardonnay is considered relatively easy to cultivate where it takes on the impressions of its surroundings and winemaking. Pinot Noir is a more delicate variety that needs a little TLC, but offers magnificent returns.

Riesling / Rosé

Traits: Easy going and adaptable

Riesling is an extremely versatile grape as it can be made into various wine styles – dry, off-dry and sweet. They typically also have high acidity which makes them one of the few white wines that can be aged long term if desired. Rosé styles, much like Riesling, also range from dry to sweet.

If you’re a person who adapts easily to new environments and able to go with the flow, these wines will speak to you. Flexibility and malleability runs in your blood and you can make the most out of any situation.

White / Red Blend

Traits: A bit of everything

Can’t exactly pinpoint yourself to one specific trait? You’re probably a mixture of the wines above. White or red blends have some characteristics of the varieties they are made from, but because they are a combination of varieties, they harmoniously produce a wine that is one-of-a-kind.

When the situation gets chaotic, you embrace the situation with full confidence and boldness, like Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon or Syrah. But once you have things under control, you radiate like the Sun and exude a structured yet warm demeanor, grasping everyone’s attention like a magnet drawing in iron.

Dessert Wine

Traits: Noble and sweet

If you are kind, gracious, tender, understanding and forgiving, you’re one with a sweet nature.

You bring out the best in yourself regardless of the situation and you’re capable of hanging in there, much like the grapes left to hang on the vines to let noble rot to set in for botrytised dessert wines.

A prized gem, you choose to love in the midst of harsh times and affect everyone to increase their kindness in this sometimes difficult world. A true heart of gold.

So how did that date go? Did you two choose the same wine to drink on your first date? Or did you have different wine personalities? At least you know which wine to drink on a first date.
